From talking to those who wanted to get into Harvard last month, to learning from those who have studied there this month.
Spoke at the Harvard Asia Pacific Conference in Colombo on emerging Asia, the way the Philippines is the next wave for digital payments and embedded finance, and how Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) blended with use-case driven AI for financial services, health and education, is bringing the benefits of this transformation to tier 2 and tier 3 cities across Asia where most of the raw data is neither in English nor on the Internet.
The last mile and ‘Phygital’ are becoming recurrent themes enabling these intelligent services. yufin, as an example, is bridging tier 1 financial services, sachetised content and assisted-commerce to the growing demand in tier 2 and tier 3 using last mile participants as distribution hubs, generating transactional and behavioural data not available from internet giants.
It was heartening to see the love and respect from business leaders and decision makers of Sri Lanka for a dear friend and ex-colleague Sandun Hapugoda. The local economy is doing better, the currency is recovering, and the dark clouds are starting to lift.
Trivia: INSEAD, the business school for the world, was founded in the late fifties by a Professor and graduates from HBS, Georges Doriot and Claude Janssen. Did mention in passing to some of the summit participants that we know there is a loving and proud mother watching when the daughter does well on the league tables.
