Davao Diaries: August 7, 2024

1. yufin is growing 30% month on month and taking the momentum to Q4. Stay tuned.
2. We are now getting rice to rum and school supplies to furniture, from the wholesaler to the last mile for them to sell better to consumers in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The 50 kg sacks of rice are a hit.
3. Learning and development happens in the field talking to the last mile. Distribution is king. Our new sales ambassadors got their initiation on the ground this week.
4. yufin yuOrder service is now getting >3,500 items delivered daily to the last-mile who save time, effort, and money. It will also lower their overdependence on informal money lenders from Q4. (hint)
5. Two items unrelated to the city of Mumbai are called by that name in Southern Philippines. First, the informal money lenders are ‘Bumbay’ and secondly, imported onions are called ‘Bombay’. But in line with its association, the Bombay are twice as expensive as the price of a litre of gasolene.
6. The economy is still >95% cash-based. The Indian 3-wheeler brands like Bajaj and TVS are everywhere, much like in Indonesia, but all fare are cash based. Even the local lottery is all cash. One of our sales ambassadors won last month. Am trying to dissuade him from spending cash there.
7. August is when the annual Kadayawan festival hits Davao. yufin is going local and taking on earthy tribal hues for our upcoming promotions for yuOrder.
